This concert marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Admiral Lord Nelson.
Born in Burnham Thorpe in 1758 he spent much of his boyhood in an around the village. Later, when on half pay from the Navy, he lived in Burnham Market and worked on the land until he was given his ship the Agamemnon. The rest is history . . .
Founded in Cambridge in 2003 The Solstice Quartet has enjoyed widespread success and has recently been awarded a junior fellowship at the International Institute in Madrid. Having also been selected for the Tillett Trust Young Artists’ platform they make their Wigmore Hall debut next February.
Irish soprano Sylvia O’Brien has established herself as a singer with a particular affinity for contemporary music although she also sings the mainstream repertoire and is equally at home on the operatic stage
as in the recital hall.
Joseph Phibbs studied composition in London and New York and is regarded as one of the finest composers of his generation. His work Lumina written for Leonard Slatkin and the BBC Symphony Orchestra was premièred in the 2003 Last Night of the Proms. ‘The Silence at the Song’s End’ is newly commissioned by The Vaulkhard Choral Trust especially for this occasion and is a cycle of songs, which takes it name from a collection of poems by Nicholas Heiney.
